Hitoy Cerere is a Biological Reserve part of the La Amistad-Caribe Conservation Area (Puerto Limon) which is also part of the SINAC, which stands for Spanish; National System of Conservation Areas of Costa Rica.
Located at foothills of Talamanca mountain range, Hitoy Cerere Biological Reserve has an extension is of 9.154,6 hectares of tropical wet forest, with no well-defined dry season. A very rugged terrain makes it a place of difficult access.
Biodiversity of Hitoy Cerere is very high and much of it unexplored yet by science.
This image of the waterfall was taken on Jan 31 2010 with a Canon Rebel XT digital camera, with a Canon Lens EF 24mm 1:2.8, shutter speed was of 1/6s, aperture value f/22, sunny white balance and ISO 100.
Walking to this point takes a bit more than one hour, the problem is that much of this hike is done through the river which has very slippery rocks, actually Hitoy Cerere means in cabecar dialect: Crystal clear waters and slippery rocks.
We were lucky not only to have a sunny day but to be able to get images of the waterfall with two local girls who came with their family to visit and eat lunch here, and give a real scale of the waterfall’s height.
Driving time from Port Limon to Hitoy Cerere is about 1:20 hours and this trip can be done as a one-day Costa Rica shore excursion for cruise ship travelers visiting Puerto Limon. |
