This is the picture of the week, is one of those pictures that I really like, maybe because there are so few things to say about it, but just the opposite; the picture seems to produce a feeling of silence, or at least that´s what I feel.

If I have to talk about this picture I shall say that the essence of it is the use of light, and to this point I recall the last three words Goethe apparently said while de died: Light, light, light.

The use of shadows of course is what enhances the few but intense light happening the moment I took the picture; it produces a contrast that is just about to open in a conflict between light and darkness –interesting philosophical statement- but it doesn´t, the composition ¨arranged¨ things between these two elements in a way harmony is established, but this harmony, remember, is in a tense situation, this produces movement inside the picture and probably from there, the feeling of silence.

Taking a picture of a forest usually comes back as a bad image, this is because so many leaves all together, blend for the camera lens and fuse into an ugly or unpleasant texture that spoils the picture. So the way to capture the forest idea into a picture is taking a small piece of that forest and –depending on proportions and composition- human´s mind will end up drawing the whole picture for us, that´s what I tried to make while I took this picture.
The picture was taken in a rainforest at Puerto Limon Costa Rica during the morning; the palm could be Welfia georgi.
